Thornlie’s big footy fields, packed schools and railway rebuild mean car stories that don’t fit a single template: a retired tradie’s Hilux next to a 20-year Camry that still does India Mart runs; a writ-off on Spencer Road; a housing-estate hatch that never saw a logbook. Heat and stop-start SE arterial traffic punish older fleet more than outer leafy suburbs. When the mechanic shrugs and the car parks at Thornlie Square for “just one errand” become permanent, cash for the vehicle and a free tow expose more driveway for life — and less money wasted on expired rego.
